CVPS Meter Upgrade requires new timer in many homes

Rate 11 and 13 Customers - New meters coming your way
and HB Electric is here to get you ready.

As part of CVPS’s smart grid project, CVPS SmartPower®, CVPS will begin installing advanced digital meters in late February. One of the goals of the program is to allow more customers the opportunity to save money by shifting usage to lower price time periods.

As a Rate 11 or 13 customer, you already have this opportunity, and both Rate 11 and 13 will continue to exist.  However, this new metering technology does not function in the same way as your current meter and many of you will notice changes when this new meter is installed.

Rate 11 and 13 customers who have installed automatic control packages hardwired to their meter to manage and control their appliance usage at certain times of the day will not be supplied a signal from the meter.  The red indicator light located in a centralized area of the home will also not receive any signal.

If you are currently utilizing an automatic control package, you will need to make a change to maintain control functions:

  • If you do not control an appliance or indicator light with a signal from the existing meter you do not need to make any changes now for the new meter. You do not need to continue reading further.
  • If you control appliance level usage (example: heater, water heater) with an automatic control package, you need to have a timer installed before the new meter is installed.  You will need to contact an electrician to replace the meter-activated controls with a digital timer capable of controlling your usage times.

Central Vermont Public Service is offering a mail in rebate for materials and work performed to replace your meter activated controls. DOWNLOAD YOUR REBATE FORM HERE.
